He paid for both apartments, then the developer who sold them to him did not do the right paperwork, and so the apartments are being claimed as assets owned by the original owner who has a payment lawsuit with another real estate developer and Chan never owned them in the first place legally. The court ordered the assets of the original owner to be seized to pay off the other real estate developer, and ruled that those assets included the apartments. Like it's a legal dispute between two huge real estate developers.
Chan is now as of a couple weeks ago filing a separate lawsuit that he does have legal ownership of those apartments. Whatever happens, he's probably getting money back one way or another.
