Hello users of hexbear, we have started discussions with an admin of lemmy.ca regarding potential refederation. Lemmy.ca had added hexbear to their blocklist about a year ago: https://lemmy.ca/post/3326347

With the recent changes in lemmy features as well as a maturing fediverse the mods/admins of hexbear and lemmy.ca are open to trying again, but before we put lemmy.ca on our allow-list we wanted to open up discussion and voting to the users of hexbear.

This vote will be binding with regard to adding lemmy.ca to our allow-list. In addition, the idea of including sh.itjust.works in this discussion was raised but was voted down by a majority of mods from inclusion.

https://lemmy.ca/c/canada and https://lemmy.ca/c/pcgaming are the instance's top two communities but there are a few other small, niche communities. A community that may be removed from hexbear is the https://lemmy.ca/c/fediverselore so please indicate your opinion on this community if you have one.

As usual please use

dean-smile if you would like lemmy.ca to be added to our allow-list

dean-frown if you would like lemmy.ca to not be added to our allow-list

We will leave this post unlocked for a few days before making the decision, thank you. Users may also use this post for a general discussion on federation including naming instances for federation/defederation or feedback for the hexbear admin/mod team.

as long as .ca understands nothing will fundamentally change from the hexbear population.

I don’t think we should ever re-fed in bad faith or because it would be funny. If we know it won’t work, then we shouldn’t do it. But my hope here is that .ca has shed some of its former redditiness and is more willing to talk to non-liberals.

Is America much different? I would rather not be associated with my government's actions and I'm sure plenty of Canadians feel the same

Unfortunately given the family history of Chrystia Freeland, we're unlikely to see a course-reversal on Canada's undying support for Ukrainian fascists. In a just world, her nazi maternal grandfather would have been shot on sight instead of given citizenship.

that site has like 20 daily users, i dont think we’ll even notice they’re federated unless a hapless lib accidently steps in it.

If we do refederate, can each community display each other's code of conduct for around a week before actually federating? They need to understand their reddit liberalism isn't acceptable in this corner.

From what I've seen, the .ca has a lot of reactionary posters.

https://lemmy.ca/c/fediverselore ban this from Hexbear if ca gets federated. Spaces exclusively about internet drama are bad for the soul

there’s a significant number of immature replies slandering us / Canada.

As a result of this cowardice I am going to ratchet up my Kkkanada slander.

its literally a troll instance. most instances defederated from them for a reason

Dang, since all the instances that defederate Hexbear also defederate Lemmygrad.ml, Lemmygrad.ml must be a troll instance, too

Hexbear users aren’t leftists, they’re radical centrists. Preach the virtues of communism while attacking people for being communists. Speak up about the genocide in Palestine while denying the genocide in China. Support capitalist Russia and Imperialist Putin in the name of anti-capitalism and anti-imperialism. Preach the values of queer acceptance while harassing people for being trans. Every good opinion they have is tainted by acting the exact opposite way the next day. They claim to be leftists, but 50% of the time their actions are the actions of fascists.

I think there's some tagline potential in here somewhere.

there’s a significant number of immature replies slandering us / Canada.

The mod team at .ca introduced the topic by complaining about us right off the bat. Which is contrasted to the overall neutral/positive/lowdrama intro posted here.

The comments were ready to jump in with more winging and whining. And again to contrast, both threads have their "concerns" and annoyances. On hexbear you can see taking responsibility for past/future disputes. Talking about what is the .ca expectation of us, what sorts of conflicts are foreseeable and the outcomes of that, etc. On .ca nothing like that. Just cowering from the memes. (TIL the rest of the internet isn't full of memes.)

I was hoping for some quality smoke time reading badposts from the federation dissenters in that thread but even their fear and hate are boring rehashes and vague rumors. It should have been funny, but i left feeling flat...

      Hexbear, is this irony poisoning?

I think the ideal situation is federating with as many places as possible (with exceptions for nazis and such ofc) but very loosely pressing the ban button, like how the dbzero mods are banned here but not the instance itself. I know that creates more work for the mods though, but since ya'll suggested it, I assume you considered that.
