CMV: Discord is a terrible platform for community discussions and basically a regression to an AOL chatroom
I love getting responses to messages I posted a day ago on discord and having to scroll up for 20 minutes to find what the hell I was talking about
was it really only 2 weeks? felt like 2 months. I checked the discord every day or so for something that didn't suck and was left sorely disappointed
I'll say my 2 cents since downvotes are disabled:
- Chapo name pisses of will
- More people vaguely know what chapo is and associate it with the left than "Hexbear"
- Hexbear is only popular here because it was starting to be a meme right when the sub got shitcanned, so it is sort of an end of history effect. It's not really our own thing anyways, we don't really have an original meme here. Don't get me wrong I love the photo and art, but it isn't something that distingushes the site from the reddit.
- Chapo is a funny name (Though I think ChaCha is as cringe as people calling themselves redditors), Hexbear sounds like we are trying to clone reddit's snoo thing and is less funny
Whats funny is I was watching some of the older episodes recently looking for a specific bit and they all liked the sub. They did AMAs and took questions and stuff. Oh well ig
I remember people were upset about Will & Amber saying not to worry about having kids in the Moby Dick Q&A episode. That was the start of the classic Anti-natalism struggle session. Ah good times, seems like only yesterday.
That struggle session birthed arguably the best cold open, so it was very much worth it
Imagine thinking there is anything that could make a Discord remotely redeemable.
When I spend the time to workshop and A/B test a new shitpost, I don't want it gone from the collective consciousness in the flash of an instant so that someone can continue their conversation about their new spice collection.
That's why, taking a cue from, Percy Shelley, the truly timeless web community has no posts.
Personally, I'm trying to get to a place where I dont care what Will Menaker thinks
Awww...was will mad about his intellectual property? I wonder how Chapo Guzman feels about all this. Does the guy who made the intro song get a cut of that patreon money? He should.
When the average person that wasn't extremely terminally online back during the old subs' dying feverishness doesn't have to ask "what the fuck is a hexbear" and "what does that have to do with the left"
Going another layer deep into references will only make that easier, definitely!
I'm once again asking you to change the name to hexbear.chat :bernie:
These struggle sessions are like when the Mythbusters built a new crash test dummy and Adam and Jamie got into an argument about whether they should keep the dirty and fucked up head from the old one
I'm on team continuity
The Discord takes all the worst aspects of the subculture of the old sub and this site, supercharges them to eleven, then revels in its own sense of smug contrarian detachment.
Apparently this site made its own discord channel but the original one alienated me within a week or two of joining. Lots of terminally online, mentally ill/emotionally unstable teenagers airing their baggage and getting into ridiculous personal spats.
We named our site after our favorite drug kingpin “Joaquin El Chapo Guzman”. Just like will menaker did with his podcast thing
fishwistle is right. We're named after avid noseclam enthusiast Joaquin Guzmán. Any similarity with the podcast is coincidental.
Yep, I stopped listening after super tuesday pretty much but heard that episode on a group listen on the discord
This is proof the discord is good and the postcast is bad, no further questions
don’t have account level social credit scores
Yes we do, but we hide the cursed knowledge. But those sufficiently skilled in the dark arts can know.
I'm praying every day for federation so that I can hang out here but from a safer distance
CMV: the podcast is a million times better than this cursed website (even if i don't always agree with them). chapo has made me laugh and think critically about more topics than this website could do in a hundred years
bet they havent thought you the most important lesson, death to outside cats
Is an outside cat an 'outside cat' upon being taken inside? Is this not the death of an 'outside cat' and the birth of something new altogether?
Humorously enough, the local stray that has taken up residence only comes in to sleep during the day and insists on being let out at night.
Continuity is good for growth, and associating with a podcast which a) spawned the sub that created this nebulously successful offshoot and b) gets at least 100k listens per episode is smart , and you should actually be spamming links in the Soundcloud / Patreon comments on the regular
So you want to ignore all content, structure, etc. because you don't like the name?
Is "defund the police" too scary for you, too?
