Here to be honest because the pure liberalism on other anarchist online spaces is too much
Yeah like I'd take some ML's being way too enthusiastic about China any day over some lib in an anarchist subreddit or raddle trying to tell me how China giving my country 5G internet is "debt trap diplomacy" or some other nonsense.
I dropped by one of the subs today and the top post in a "what's your take on how we can help the uyghur situation" was literally "America needs to intervene". I couldn't believe my eyes.
It was really fucking depressing, I fucking can't stand lifestyle Anarchist/libs who like the aesthetic. It was like a 14h old thread so I kind of left it, but they cloaked it in "it's not an Anarchist world so things need non Anarchist solutions".
things need non Anarchist solutions
No! God no. Fuck no. Augh. No the whole point is that we DO need anarchist solutions. Fuck.
Anarchy101 is such a weird sub. Like 80% of the posts are either bitching about tankies or coming up with hairbrained solutions to "the China problem".
Just hang out here, we might be quiet but we're def around! We'll convert a few people yet. Chapo being spicy over anarchism just makes things more fun.
Just here. Every time I log on to reddit and see the Anarchist subs I always wonder why TF I do that to myself.
Meta-anarchism, last i tried to participate there, was horribly traumatized and stuck in an endless cycle of revenge purgings and bad faith readings of every single goddamn post. It was hell.
Meta-anarchism
Wasn't that sub attempting to reconcile all the anarchist tendencies, including ancaps?
Absolutely not, it's the sub meant for organizing moderation of r/anarchism democratically. For all that can be said about meta's inability to handle conflict without vastly overstating harm, they still fucking hate ancaps.
It would be pretty cool if this happened. I think the concept of federated social media plugs well into anarcho-syndacalism, and it would be cool to see anarchist spaces like this develop a sort of autonomous, ad-hoc presence. Not that I want to drive Anarchists off Chapo.chat, but distributing communities across instances and experimenting with ways to make them more democratic and less hierarchical would be a benefit to all.
I think the cost would be kinda negligible next to the labor in administration and maintenance. You can rent a VPS for 5-10 dollars a month and a domain for 10-20 dollars a year. Unless your website really takes off, it will cost less to host it than it does just to have internet access at your home. The challenge is assembling a multidisciplinary team of trustworthy people to share in the maintenance efforts. Updating software on the server, making backups, fixing things when they break, etc. What Beatnik did well was getting everyone into the same place to work on a common goal.
Since the days we got Chapo.chat off the ground though, both Lemmy and Hexbear have only gotten better. The challenges to launching a new instance are much smaller today thanks to the work everyone put in.
The street team initiative was great in and of itself. o7
having one useable channel on one reddit clone sounds not great tbh
just act like an obnoxious anarchist on the rest of the site too
This. I'm not really an anarchist but I say that while anarchists are a minority here the non-sectarianism rules shouldn't apply to them. Let them run hog-wild.
you're an admin, be the change you wanna see. do what I've been suggesting forever now, keep tendency specific posts to tendency specific channels, and keep the main and default channels relatively tendency agnostic. like, posts about chinas biquarterly GDP growth should be in c/sino instead of getting 8000 upvotes on c/main. or like, last time i signed in some post about how awful r/anarchism was on the_dunk_tank with 100 upvotes. like either just officially make it an ML site, or moderate it as a left unity platform bc you can't do both.
end rant. sorry if that was rude its just so annoying to me lol.
yeah, scroll past when like 1 or 2 posts are bad, but when like half the posts and almost all the comments are extremely hostile towards anarchists it makes it unpleasant to use.
also why'd you just unban fed when they were banned for transphobia I thought we were trying to not unban ppl for that anymore
wasn't it a bad joke about how Hillary is "secretly a man BC she has a penis" according to the mod log
hey look, you yourself did that sectarianism I was talking about less than a day ago
Imho anarchism and libertarian communism are less about curating the correct opinions, and more about how power is accumulated and used.
I came here to say I was anarchist too but this whole Autonomous Marxist™ thing seems pretty legit
Why is Vaush so hated? I don’t watch streamers so he’s not my thing, but he seems highly disliked
He has lots and lots of bad takes, he's an insufferable celebrity/"leader" mentality, he doesn't recognize the glaring limits of his own expertise, and he's neck-deep in liberalism which he refuses to acknowledge.
It perplexes me how he came to be the preeminent "anarchist" streamer. Then again, perhaps the niche was wide open for that type of grift.
a big part of success on these algorithmized platforms is maintaining a high volume of output and creating dramatic narratives with other Content Creators
i don't even know enough about him to hate him specifically, i just find the segment of the online left that's all about, like, reaction videos and twitch "debates" really tiring and just openly cultivating another consumer demographic under the guise of Actually Doing Politics.
A bunch of small, non-politically focused communities. Which are all strangely drifting left. Might be an anarchist plot.
And for some reason Hacker News? I've been able to get away with some brazenly anti-capitalist shit there lately.
PS: Hi fellow bird.
And for some reason Hacker News?
That's surprising. From the posts making fun of them on Sneer Club I figured it was a den of classic "rationalist" tech nerds that start praising eugenics and talk about "human biodiversity" with thin presence of objectivity at a drop of a hat.
I mean, there's a lot of those too. I'm in tech, I'm used to them cropping up once in a while. But not very often, because I mock them for that shit.
HN is historically very libertarian. But I've been working on them a while. And their material conditions have been working on them for a while. They've all been sold a specific version of the capitalist mythology by a specific kind of capitalist, then it didn't work out (shock), then they got normal jobs where they were paid well but visibly a fraction of what their labor produces.
Just as monarchists aren't the same as monarchs, anarchists aren't the same as anarchs. May we all be anarchs- neither ruling nor ruled- within our life spans.
To answer your question, largely just local channels that aren't fully online, but also Path B dot net and permaculture communities.
apropos of nothing, remember that ancap that shot up the pentagon in 2010 and was working on a linux distribution called Rothbardix?
