Not to get too nerdy here, but quoting the actual communist manifesto:

German philosophers, would-be philosophers, and beaux esprits (men of letters), eagerly seized on this literature, only forgetting, that when these writings immigrated from France into Germany, French social conditions had not immigrated along with them. In contact with German social conditions, this French literature lost all its immediate practical significance and assumed a purely literary aspect.

In fact, the social democrats were so opposed to violent revolution that they participated in the violent suppression of one!

I always find it wild that first world SocDems and DemSocs love to rest on the laurels of meager concessions wrung from the plutocrats decades ago and condescend to all other AES projects which have objectively done so much more with so much less.

Concessions that only had the urgency they did because of the viable threat of communist revolution!

"Can't we just go back to the time capital and business felt so threatened by union action, by revolutionary action, by external socialist nations, that they had to provide better benefits and concessions? Without actually meaningfully doing anything?

Oh the capitalists are even more powerful now and have less external leftist pressure and increasing material wealth that they use on arms and the security apparatus and propaganda, I guess they know it's in their best interest to compromise a little for reduced profit, if there's one thing we know it's that business as a whole is willing to forego profit for the benefit of everyone which is why capitalism will solve the climate crisis."

Some beautiful moments from that thread -

Here in Europe there is no link with gun culture in the leftsphere.

If the gov't wants to stop you, they fucking will. You will never seize it by force, only through the ballot box.

    And finally,

This is about shutting down the gatekeeping 20 to 25 year white male leftists have taken over a historical movement that they know nothing about. If they want to be violent and revolutionary in the U.S., then I wholly encourage it. The state forces in service of capitalists would put an end to that pretty quickly and it would do little to stunt the work of the left in the U.S. which has gained major traction in the last five or so years. The difference between this small group (I'm assuming you're part of) and the rest of the left--social democrats and democratic socalists being a small part of the rest--is that we acknowledge your existence, you just act like the rest of us don't exist--nor, apparently, have we ever according to FartnArtist over here.

Good thing the government is powerless against the ballot box. If only they had those in Germany in the 30's.

If the capitalists have such an overwhelming advantage in force, why would they hand over the reins of power just because they lost a vote? What are you gonna do if they refuse?

I do agree with the first paragraph, I think it’s kinda important to back up your ideas or positions more than “Well Marx said it”

The funniest part is the post he's responding to didn't even mention Marx. It looks like he mixed it up with someone else quoting "under no pretext...".

I mean it is nice to take one fictive group and claim those are the real socialists. It kind of sucks when you got people like the levelers and the true levelers (aka the diggers) a couple of centuries earlier who are actually split into two groups, one militant and one in the false thought of not having to be militant (the latter was squashed and the leading figures tortured and killed by military force).

Love to completely ignore the Black Panther party, and every anti-imperialist movement in the 20th century when discussing leftism since the 1900s

It does tickle my goat sometimes when certain kinds of leftists will treat the written works of Marx & Engels, Lenin, perhaps a few others the same way that Xtians treat The Holy Bible. Specifically I'm talking about seeing it as a repository/tome of "Truth". Like if during a argument or debate or even just a heated discussion over some disagreement, using a quote from Marx as if somehow the fact that he said it somehow is proof that its true. Like aight, some guy from 150 years ago with a couple good ideas agrees with you. Guess what? He also famously ate his eggs with ketchup, its not like the dude is infalliable or something. Maybe among other Marxists it holds some argumentative worth, but that's still cultish and creepy and to the rest of us, you actually kinda do look like liberals and their "Founding Fathers"

I like that eating eggs with ketchup is presented as unquestionable proof of the fallibility of man
