When he debated Richard Wolff, he would be looking up Wikipedia pages in the middle of it. Referring back to notes is fine but this motherfucker was literally forming his positions and seeking the evidence as he went along lol. Then he would just talk to his chat or spin around in his chair making noises while Wolff is talking, and he would interrupt Wolff to criticize him for explaining history and background first then making his argument lol

I mean the classic Michael brooks debate has him attempting to seize on singular data point that destiny thinks is being used incorrectly and brooks refuses to let him talk about because brooks used it correctly and destiny only cares about nit picking about using perfect examples to prove a point, while brooks only cares about the big picture (in that case that TPP and trade deals are made to benefit corporations first and not the countries who get pulled into them).

He's such a stupid fucking need that he thinks he can know more about topics from people who spend their whole lives on that one topic after he spends an afternoon on Wikipedia.

Finkelstein is correct to wonder how this bozo can constantly be so supremely confident without a shred knowledge to actually back it up. Some kind of ultra version of dunning-kruger effect.

At one point Finkelstein says, "With all due respect, you’re such a fantastic moron. It’s terrifying."

Critical support for Finkelstein in his quest to destroy all Zionists.

Al-Aqsa Flood and Israel's genocide in response to it has legitimately jokerfied Finklestein. He's an old guy so don't expect him to put on makeup and go on an adventure but the way he talks about Israelis and the IDF now compared to how he did before are like two totally different people.

He must’ve seen how the west had strong “support” for Palestinians before 9/11, then it immediately switched to foaming genocidal fantasies afterwards, and now back to overwhelming support (mainly from the rest of the world)

Between his own family being killed in the holocaust and his old age, I imagine he wants to put Zionists in their place one final time, as jokerfied as possible, before he leaves the earth.

Someone linked an AMA Norm did nine years ago where he's talking about non violence resistance, and its aged pretty poorly because a few years later the Palestinians would attempt the Great March of Return protest and thousands of them would be kneecapped by Israeli snipers. According to his TrueAnon interview, that event killed any belief he had in nonviolent protest against the Israelis (as well as completely discredited him among the Palestinians because he had been such a strong advocate for it).

His second appearance on trueanon is heartbreaking. He talks about how he hoped Palestine would be on a trajectory to be freer once he left, and now he doesn't have that hope. He mentioned the ward in a Gazan hospital he funded that is named for his parents, and how that is probably destroyed, which Brace confirms and Norm just says something like "of course" and that is right when the episode ends. Just a gutpunch.

Norm - I am an old-fashioned communist (with a lower-case "c"). I don't think borders and States make sense. The world is a tiny place, the fundamental challenges confronting humankind - climate change, economic dysfunction-- can only be solved on a global scale. My heartstrings still resonate to, "The Internationale shall be the Human Race." CommiePOGGERS

I think it’s pretty great how there are two prominent public intellectuals with high, croaky voices who look vaguely alike: Jordan Peterson and Noam Finkelstein, and they’re mostly on the opposite of the issues.

The difference is that Finkelstein actually has something valuable to say most of the time whereas Peterson cries about fat women offending him on twitter

Norm is also against "woke politics", although while JP has a repurposed Nazi conspiracy theory to explain why he doesn't like wokeness, Finklestein's problem with it is more that the Democratic Party has embraced it as a kind of religious dogma and pushed out elements of their old base with it, so it's not really the same.

If people don't like wokeness because it is insufficiently woke I can't find it in myself to dislike that.

he's pretty transphobic ngl, in one of his books he said

              transphobia

“At its worst, the woke cult of transgenders is a cross between voyeurism and morbidity, a fascination with the sexually bizarre, a politically correct version of snuff pornography. It’s at the “intersectionality” of the lassitudinous culture of the Hamptons and the depraved sexual ennui of Hollywood.”

It's actually kind of instructive, how if you have a smallish cadre of organized actors you can hack this stuff.

He's just got a discord full of diehards who harangue people until he can juice content out of it. After they've done it long enough, they raise his profile with the target until the target is so annoyed that they feel like they have to address it.

Then they meet with him and, win or lose, it makes him seem more like a legitimate public figure.

It also helps that Alex Friedman is exactly the type to see Destiny positively and put him in that debate when any other scholar would have made a quality discussion.

Destiny isn't a leftist, he was a i guess Bernie guy, could be wrong there, borderline soccer Lib who debated maga people or something for a while and became a proto vaush and I guess still exists. The guy that looks like Colm Meany is some zionist creep but he's at least read a book or two and handles the real arguing while Destiny looks at his phone. The bald guy is Finklestein's roommate or something. It's reddit incarnate attempting to punch waaaaaaaaaaaaaay over his weight and failing hard.

Vaush came out of Destiny's community as a more left wing version of him, if that's any indication of what we're talking about with this guy. His popularity peaked when he was debating maga chuds but then he started debating left-leaning people and revealed himself to be a militant centrist.
