Can confirm. Was raised by them and while a small handful retain some of the radicalism of the 60s most of them are absolutely garbage people. Lots of anti-vaxx crystal healing weirdos without an ounce of class solidarity, shit sucks.

"Guys I think Marianne is the best choice after Bernie, unironically"

"I think we should look to countries like Denmark, like Sweden and Norway," Sanders said, "and learn what they have accomplished for their working people."

I mean, not like her take is that different from Bernie.

Bernie just wouldnt have run as a socialist if that were true though. The difference between someone that just openly admits they're not a socialist or even anti-capitalist and someone that says they're a socialist is pretty significant, even if their presidential platforms were similar in some ways.

tbh i think its childish to think Bernie was just an imbecile who thought socialism means what Sweden is doing

Yeah i've read Our Revolution and he's pretty clear about things in it. He would never have called himself a socialist if he wasnt one, it didnt help him or serve any strategic means. Bernie has a long history of supporting socialists around the world, what his platform as president was doesnt have much to do with his own personal ideologies, and theres a clear distinction between him and a liberal like Marianne. The difference is that yes social democracies have things that socialist countries can implements obviously, but Marianne looks to it as an end in it of itself while someone like Bernie looks at these things as part of the answer as opposed to the answer itself. I also dont think Bernie was great at articulating some things, though he was good at popularizing concepts related to socialist ideology.

I mean, is that even wrong though? The other choices were so awful that she really was the least bad one after Bernie. It says more about how bad the other candidates were than anything.

I think it's a case of "it's not what is being said, but how it's being said." Saying that she was the second best choice gives her validity. Imagine it was just Bernie, Pete, and Biden, and someone said "I think Pete's the best choice after Bernie." You're legitimizing a terrible choice, you shouldn't give much space to think about anything but the only acceptable possibility.

But practically speaking, in the most positive possible scenario Bernie would have gotten some social democratic reforms done that probably don't go as far as Sweden, so I'm not sure the practical difference is a that great.

The same goes for Denmark, our socdem government spends all its time dogwhistling about scary """"youths"""" and taking away benefits from the unworthy. And now we have a massive scandal in government, with mayors and party leaders getting booted for 30+ years of sexual harassment. Any covid-related financial aid has been contingent on jobs or unions (only 1000 dkk or 150 dollars in unconditional aid from the government.)

Dear Xi, I can leave the city gates unlocked if you get here quick.

Yes but do you understand how comparatively horrible the U.S. is? Are there people in Sweden, Denmark, and Norway going into lifetimes of medical debt? You really can’t blame people in the U.S. for looking up to countries like Sweden for doing the absolute bare minimum and aspiring for that too

Most people here are pretty new to leftism. Bernie was losing and they were reaching out for any hand they could grab. I’m glad it’s been finally put to rest though. Sounds like an absolutely horrible person. The people into crystals and the like are usually grifters and don’t actually help except to make you feel a bit better about how shit everything is.

chicken and the egg kinda thing. the system selects intellectual cowards. Intellectual cowardice helps them not step out of line.

I still hate the way they did Bernie dirty in his last debate with Biden. They had him try to condemn Cuba’s literacy program. The fucking ghouls. All of them.

Or they simply have never had these thoughts questioned

The easiest answer, would have been cuisine

Bruh, every American would shit themselves (regularly) if they had to eat government issued meals instead of whatever slop they were used to

Society would break down without the grease that keeps the gears moving and hearts clogging
