Can you elaborate in good faith?

I legitimately don't get if this is a bit or honesty, but either way I would enjoy hearing more of your views on this subject.

Do you mean that Brace went and fought because he likes israel so much and his aim was to increase their security, not the people he actually joined up with? How would that square with his constant criticism of zionism and israel, its all an op and he's playing 4d chess?

Except that's not what's happening in Syria.

The YPG is so far from being a US proxy that they fought against US proxies in Syria, are at war with a NATO member, and work with the Syrian government.

Yeah, there was a lot of hasty backtracking in the 80s when Irving went off the deep end. He'd been known for doing good work in the German archives before that happened.

Ron Rosenbaum, in "Explaining Hitler" (a book about the various theories of "why was Hitler Hitler"), says that colleagues of Irving told him that after some of Irving's earlier (still controversial, but not Holocaust denial) works were published, and received decently, he was put in touch with some of Hitler's surviving inner circle. Apparently they wanted to share their views of Hitler the person with someone they viewed as fair minded, and Irving's colleagues think that being brought into their trust broke him.

Which makes sense - he was controversial back home, but now these people are welcoming him and giving him secret knowledge? They must be on to something! "They like me! That means they're good people! They liked Hitler, which means good people like Hitler!"

Aimee Terese is so funny to be put on there. I mean she belongs on the list maybe more than anyone, but a lot of the "irony left" and "dirtbag left" on twitter basically tells her to eat shit nonstop every time she makes a new account. Like while she personofies the phenomenon that the author is trying to describe, him trying to slander the broader dirtbag left becomes difficult when you center a figure that is nearly universally hated.

Oh yeah, there's definitely some reactionaries who are adopting leftist aesthetics (or genuine leftists who have drifted more reactionary). The article loses credibility when it paints with a broader brush, and clearly it's more concerned with influential leftist alt-media than whether or not there are reactionaries on the left. Hell, I doubt the author even genuinely cares about stopping reactionaries from gaining power.

Host Hasan Piker exclaims, “And that’s how we tie this neatly back to the QAnon Conspiracy. There you go.” “Which is 100 percent correct,” Belden jokes. “No,” Liz and Hasan say. “It’s 50 percent correct,” says Christman, more seriously. “It’s like, 30, 40... 30 percent,” says Belden.

Lol not only are they using TrueAnon (a podcast ostensibly about Jeffrey Epstein's pedophile cabal) as the lefty Qanon podcast (instead of the vastly superior and WAY-more-easily-percieved-as-problematic QanonAnonymous) but they also (wrongly) claim Hasan Piker is a co-host?

Chapo Trap House’s Matt Christman avowed in an interview with the TrueAnon podcasters last year: “There are two basic premises to QAnon, one is right and one is wrong, … That’s why I say it’s a 50/50 thing. The premise of, ‘We are ruled by a cabal of cannibalistic psychotic sexual abusers and all the institutions that they create are to further their dominance over us’: Correct. And that ‘Donald Trump is going to stop them’: Incorrect.”

This is, of course, the tip of the iceberg. Far-right blog Counter-Currents noted that @kantbot hosted another “unwoke Left” podcaster, Aimee Terese, who was praised by white nationalist group American Renaissance for retweeting Bronze Age Pervert and supposedly rejecting “the war on white heritage.” Counter-Currents further appreciated @kantbot hosting Sean McCarthy, of the “Dirtbag Left” podcast Grubstakers. McCarthy in turn hosted Chapo Trap House’s Matt Christman on Grubstakers for a two-part episode chatting about QAnon for hours, along with another of their cohort, Nick Mullen. (Neither Terese nor McCarthy responded to requests for comment.) Mullen is fairly notorious for his controversial podcast Cum Town and his use of racist slurs, including dropping the n-word multiple times on Bill Maher. Mullen also joined The Sitdown podcast to talk about pedophilia in Hollywood back in 2018, which a host introduced by saying, “We’re here to talk about probably the biggest cartel that I know of, and it’s full of Jews.”

Mike Recine has hit the fuckin' big time, ayy! :AyyyyyOC-big:

Bill Maher wasn't really making fun of racism, as long as we're pointing things out. The joke was just that he's not tough enough to be outdoors, and he used a slur to make it.

This was in the context of Maher and Ben Sasse commiserating about adults dressing up for Halloween and Sasse suggesting that Maher come out to Nebraska, because they don't do that out there apparently.

I watched this happen, I gotta share just how bad it was. Especially in the context of this author fumbling the facts this badly.

This article is a lot of guilt by association a la Gwen Stacy Snider, damn it.

Some is legit - Dore is a dipshit who I don't trust at all, Red Scare is...not good.

And for my most unpopular opinion, Brace in particular is playing with fire, and if there's a mass shooter that comes out of the dirtbag left, it's gonna be a Trueanon fan who didn't quite get the irony level right.

And yet, of those I listed, I only consider Trueanon dirtbag. Dore is doing his own thing, and Red Scare is just "Mean Girls: the podcast". I like Trueanon, and listen to (almost) every episode (Finkelstein I was already very familiar with, so I skipped those), but I can admit it's definitely got the highest potential to cause trouble, and not in the good way.

    they kinda are though

and the article specifies the dirtbag left rather than the left itself so yes, red scare people being fash apologists / doing fash ironics, arent indicative of the left but it is indicative of the dirtbag left

i understand how dumb this article is, and it seems like it has some basic facts wrong but i dont know how "the dirtbag left is flirting with the alt right" is a controversial take in 2021. 2016, maybe, back when lefties were swimming in bad faith assumptions made by libs who had no intention of ever engaging with the dirtbag left in good faith, but i think since then the 2016 "dirtbag left"'s tendency to deny good faith crticism because of lib craziness, is now seen as a wrong, racist/ transphobic/ marginalizing etc choice

also the bill nye n word slurred bit is disgusting and racist. i will assume anyone still finding that shit cute is racist //like would you play that shit in front of a black person? probably not and its definitely for a reason. and if you did and got your shit rocked, nobody would think that black person was out of pocket . also like notice how almost every black person hates that bit and thinks its racist. this shit isnt a joke....

leftists could do with practicing being wrong sometimes, even if your ideological opposition is right. cant be any worse than being a marginalized leftist, witnessing white leftists refuse to deal with real misbehavior actually having to do with your existence (not just your political viewpoint) because they dont want to be seen as wrong

Particularly with "leftist practicing being wrong sometimes". I don't know if it's because we're so trapped in the "dunk" model of communication, or because Marx himself was both correct and an absolutely tiresome asshole, or because we're so small we're worried we'll damage ourselves and/or the left by admitting we're wrong, but it's almost pathological.

Not admitting fault is a powerful tool on the right, but it doesn't work on the left.

We've been getting breathless articles about how CTH will lead to red fash taking over since they started. It's wild how people who consider themselves good leftists don't recognize that shit like this is just like how CNN panics over Fox News. It's the journalism industry competing with each other by trying to convince the audience the other guy is bad. Also chapo used to literally make death threats to people in the media as a bit for the first 10 eps or so. Of course these kinds of people hate them. They can't sell their brand of "left" journalism when the ebil brocialist left shits on them and makes them look foolish.
