I love when people get indignant at the thought of other nations defending themselves from the US.

Seems to be pretty common theme across empires. Rome never fought a war of aggression after all, it was always a "defensive war" that was launched because you dared to exist near their borders.

Tie them up in the town square until they wet themselves, usually. :maduro-coffee:

:guaido: That was a rigged election.

:guaido-despair: Oh. Every international election body hasn’t found any cases of voter fraud.

I seriously think it's because most people in the USA can't really speak Spanish. I like listening to speeches by these guys and maybe they just are evil dictators who are really good at saying the right things but Castro, Maduro, Chavez etc. are all extremely reasonable sounding people compared to literally any US president.

Castro even acknowledges this in this interview lol (not everything here is perfectly translated either, so you miss out on some nuance) https://youtu.be/NmWhTKFHET0

I'm glad I know enough Spanish to understand stuff like that, especially reading transcripts. Although for me Cuban accents are pretty hard to parse 😔

I want to strap the weird reddit chauvinists to chair, teach them Spanish and then make thek watch this: https://youtu.be/-Qr4CmC1wjA

Say what you will about Cuba, the alternatives are not better and you have to be insane to imagine that the rest of Latin America is "better"

This is a really good point. Being fluent in Spanish, I think there's a cultural and linguistic understanding that ties into my appreciation of South American leaders than I kind of take for granted. Where, ironically, one of the things I really respect about them is how they totally don't give a shit about "the West" and "the first world", beyond a general "fuck you, stop fucking with us, please." like they're off in their own world, tryna do their own thing.

I know it's Breitbart, I know they're like, openly fascist without even a veneer, but what do they think an invasion is? What do they think nations are? Have they heard of the concept of war? even the nazis weren't like "wtf is wrong with you that's so fucked up" when the countries they were invading shot back at them.

Have they heard of the concept of war?

Clausewitz believed that war only happens when the invaded fight back. Imperialists have always operated on schoolyard bully logic.

Ah yes, I remember fondly the days of school, when someone could fuck with you all day but you were the one causing trouble if you enforced your boundaries. My earliest exposure to the whole "preferring a negative peace which is the absence of tension" thing.

        the War of 1812:

President James Madison was intrigued by the analysis of Major General Henry Dearborn that in the event of war, Canada would be easy pickings — even that an invasion would be welcomed by the Canadians. [source]
