The podcast is pretty good RN. The jokes and punchlines are good. The hosts, Amber aside, are properly drugged and fired up.
Yet it feels passé. It feels outdated. The whole podcast rode on the imagination of liberal collapse and a socdem ticket with Bernie. But Bernie lost like a bitch and the libs have coalesced incredibly. The podcast feels like it’s coasting now without the photosynthesis of the Bernie promise propelling their focus.
i will concede this is probably the best one of the chapo is dead post i've seen i love the french in there
Podcasts that are good: Citations needed, revleft, regrettable century, antifada (theory episodes)
Podcasts that are funny: chapo, TrueAnon
Podcasts that are good and funny: Trillbilly Worker's Party
It's rough. It is a great show, but the lack of slides when I'm working/driving really makes me feel like I'm missing something... but the commentary with slides is excellent.
Hearing reactions without context has it's own charm, it's like not showing the monster in a movie.
If there was no Street Fight, there'd be no Chapo.
If there was no Chapo, there'd be no Chapo Chat.
Trillbillies relaxes my soul no matter how bad the news. Only podcast hosts I genuinely wish i could be friends with.
I listened once and now I have a low-level paranoia about bad ventilation. Don't know if I can recommend
so underrated. the one on forensic science, episode 24 is probably my favorite podcast episode ever
Intercepted is good when their producer doesn't make them fart out a Russia episode.
They’re playing it on the intercepted podcast and using all the same producers and stuff. It’s like an intercepted mini series. It’s actually not the worst thing.
Why would TA not be considered good? I can only think of one actively bad episode, and they rebounded quickly after.
I mean they really went balls to the wall with the 9-11 trutherism which turned me off. I paid to listen to a premium about "controlled demolition" which doesn't hold any water for me tbj
Antifada historical materialism episodes are the fucking best. Next to Trillbilly / Antifada historical materialism crossover episodes
Dude, you make a post whining about the pod, like, every other day.
We get it.
I love Cushvlogs because Matt is somehow anyways capable of having the most unique takes that are very fun to consider as hypotheticals.
Like a hermit in the forest, I may not factually agree but it's a very different perspective.
They're streamed live on twitch and later uploaded to the Chapo youtube channel.
Someone has made a podcast of them called "Grill Stream"
https://soundcloud.com/grill-stream/
Also the someone is Chris Wade, who also produces CTH.
The show was hoping for a Clinton win and thought they could ride that shit for 8 years just dunking on libs. Trump won and they all thought it was over, I think Matt specifically said they'd basically just become the Daily Show and become humorless. So, I guess they might've been right.
Maybe if Biden wins they'll get back some of their spark,
The show was repurposed to be the Bernie train in 2017 and they rode that shit hard specially the last ten months. Now that Bernie has lost they have yet to find a new purpose. Trump winning gave them legitimacy, Matt’s wrong. Bernie losing made them lose that legitimacy.
Eh it’s just a strange time right now. Nothing to say about the election or the pandemic that hasn’t been said. The election night stream should be good and the stuff on Hunter for example is probably a preview of what the show might be like during a Biden admin. Which, will be fucking really funny. From the libs trying to pretend everything is normal again, to the conservatives going all tea party 2.0 to Biden himself they will find their voice again.
Every other day someone posts about how they're over the podcast. Congrats on getting over your parasocial hangups. No one was ever supposed to see them as heroes or leaders.
I don't think OP thought that? I think they just think it feels like an aimless piece of media continuing without much purpose now
It always has been, and remains to this day, a good stop on the pipeline. That said, they are not the torch bearers by any means. None the less, they provide some of the most regular and accessible left criticism of the political system.
These days, I only find Matt's grillstream rants to be interesting. Will still has an incredible grasp of the media ecosystem and is good at shitting on people when they print cringe, but that is his only specialty - tearing people down. Virgil is amusing but is mostly an electoral wonk. And Amber... well, she's amber.
I remain eternally thankful for CTH turning me into the leftist podcast scene, but there are dozens of other important shows.
Meh, they got a little too excited by Bernie's second campaign, but they were around before and will be around since.
Back before the 2016 election, they said that a Trump presidency would destroy them, because they couldn't shit on liberals anymore without getting yelled at.
And it didn't. They changed gears a little, but they survived.
I think it's just because they've kind of established, then fallen into, these routines. Things have kinda become rote. So even when an episode is good, it's still kinda following a sort of formula, even if they're not intentionally doing it.
Also, I'm not sure if it's because of Brendan being long gone, or all of them getting lazier, but the cold openings just aren't anywhere near as good anymore.
But Bernie lost like a bitch
I don't understand this. We're potentially seeing Democrats winning the Senate and getting rid of the filibuster, with Sanders as Chairman of the Budget Committee. Objectively, this is the most political power he's ever had.
the podcast is ok
something about the latest episode brought me back to ‘01-‘02 with arguing against the expansion of what a “terrorist” was, and it just shows how much ground the left lost in the last 20 years
the best example i can think of is to look at what kind of punishment was given to environmentalist and the like around that time, and how charges of terrorism could be levied against them as an excuse to go after them with the full weight of institutions. they brought up Mueller who made his name on those cases, compare with a lot of the politically motivated violence happening in the 90s like prolife activists bombing clinics and cities.
I am really glad they spent so much time talking about censorship on Twitter and Facebook because they have been making massive strides lately in terms of doing that kind of shit.
Angry Bri is the valkyrie that I will pray to before heading into battle. I hope she drops the humanitarian philosophy and becomes truly radicalized.
God damn it I'm gonna have to listen to this pod now simply because I can't picture an Angry Brie voice.
If you can't make it through the whole episode (Noam gets real annoying somewhere around the 7th time he ignores the question) skip to around 50 minutes.
