Mostly it was really just a handful of youtubers who were highly active and further to the left than we were used to from youtube. Since then they've all become less active (posting longer things less often) and more interested in pursuing niche projects than mass-reach ones. The insistence that this was a movement, instead of a handful of people who mostly knew eachother already, lead to places like /r/breadtube, which has always been a bit lib.

These fucking idiots are not our allies, just misguided fools who want to point problems out, not solve them.

If we get left unity is bc a vanguard party gave anarchist groups their blessing to conduct direct action against the agents of capital, not because some fucking breadtuber decided to play nice with the capitalists and say "China and US bad".

      Cross posted.

I would probably make an effort to remember to do that if there were cough some sort of incentive like pts for doing so cough. Right now the only people with an incentive to crosspost out of place content in the catch-all "main" community are the owners of those respective communities. That's part of the reason karma on reddit works well, all the crossposting it incentivises users to do into the relevant similar communities.

There's the other advantage of not posting in c/main, which is that you avoid finding out about the drama that happened on discord

I think it's extremely naive to think that they don't work to generate activity you want people to do.

I don't REALLY care about them, but in a choice between taking the time to crosspost for no real gain and taking the time to crosspost for a fake perceived reward? The latter is more likely to have the outcome desired. And we do desire people crossposting, right?

The only people with an actual incentive currently are the community mods seeking to populate those comms. No incentive, nobody doing it. KiaKaha here could have hit the crosspost button to do it too but did a comment instead, bizarrely, which isn't necessarily a useful outcome either.

That's a fair point. When I think about doing stuff like that I usually talk myself out of it because I don't think it will catch on.

Like most places, the posters are far outnumbered by lurkers. Most of the time on subs like that, the only people posting are people who disagree or are feds.

I dunno. That subs normalises extremely lib takes on foreign policy among fledgling leftists and bans people who dare to speak against US imperialism.

The sub doesn't "normalize" US imperialism. That's already a part of the cultural hegemony. Any sub that would ban that kind of talk would seem so foreign to new leftists that they probably would just leave.

That's the important part. You're right that imperialism is normalized within mainstream culture; we don't want to to be normalized in leftist spaces, too.

Other than conflating the entire userbase here with the serious "tankie" types (the modern strawman to replace SJW, which rarely exists and are mainly nazbol LARPers) is this really a take most people here disagree with? I've seen a lot of condemnation for the undeniably bad aspects of the USSR/China/DPRK, it's just with informed nuance and critically questioning the source of some of the information.

There isn't a problem with critiquing any state, as long as you aren't doing it in a way that supports the interests of the US.

It is not "whataboutism" to discuss US human rights abuses, and long history of propaganda when discussing any other state on the planet. As things currently stands, every state on the planet is forced to respond to the US, be it as an ally, or in opposition, and critiquing a state for a bad policy that is a reaction to a worse US one legitimizes the multiple war crimes and crimes against humanity of the US Imperial core.

yeah but there's no need to so defensive - the comments in the above screenshot don't say anything to the contrary to that. They even clarify that they believe ML != Tankie
