On Wednesday twitch changed their site rules to allow artistic nudity. The policy allowed streams to display nonsexual nudity as long as the stream is tagged, so that the stream would be hidden from the front page. Twitch rescinded the policy 2 days later.

A lot of it is misogyny, especially in the case of so called titty streamers that are really just women wearing normal clothes (leggings, tops with midriff) and then being hypersexualised.

However, I also think some of it's because in a lot of cases these people are shit at the games and not very entertaining. At the start of it I remember certain 'titty' youtubers were using fake gameplay. Their content is more based on sexual parasocial relationships. It doesn't really belong in the same space as a bunch of other entertainers.

Twitch has a some streams that are literally a woman in body paint or pasties jumping for money. Some (not all) of the titty streamer complaints are about this, not women playing games in a swoop neck.

AFAIK the most recent rule changes don't address this, it's still allowed, but you can't stream yourself drawing a naked person.

Doesn't really fit into my point, but here's the funniest ban during the brief window where drawn nudity was allowed: https://x.com/baalbuddy/status/1735397897242579068?s=20

So weird the moral panic that was happening from this lmao. People are way too obsessed with kids seeing nudity, every generation grew up trying to see porn, from boomer magazines to fuzzy ppv on channels you didn't have access to to sneaking it on a laptop, I don't see how this is effectively different lol.

Whatsmore is that there's this pretending like the Internet isn't one giant ecosystem. There's literally nothing stopping kids from opening up pornhub, or if it's blocked some other million sites to choose from, on another tab and saying they're 18 lol. Why does it fucking matter if twitch allows some nudity on there?

Why does it fucking matter if twitch allows some nudity on there?

It does to advertisers who don't want their product associated with that. Also, Hexbear doesn't allow nudity / porn partly because it doesn't fit the culture that the mod team wants to cultivate, same goes for Twitch

And parents. G*mers and incels can pretend all they want that they're mad about nudity and they'll harass the people doing it but deep down they want their titty streams and are probably frothing at this ban. I think it's def more advertisers and parents who walked past their kids on twitch and saw them watching some softcore.

Idk I think it's the conservatives that control financial middlemen with veto power, like banks. not advertisers. Advertisers tend to love sexualized imagery and use it all the time.

it was a conversation, heated, about the allowing of sexuality and something about hyperfeminization/hypersexualization as a way of expressing desired gender identities. It kinda did not make sense as an argument.

it's weird to compare hexbear and twitch, different websites for different things with a vastly different budget to moderate things on. like we exist here on a nothing budget for a niche audience, while twitch is MASSIVE in comparison

i guess i think of major websites as sort of central hubs of the web, so it's odd to cordon off it like this, similar to tumblrs banning of adult content

Apparently this is a hot take: porn should be age-gated.

Nudity isn't the same thing as porn and while you can argue that twitch's new policy bans too much, it's inarguable that many streams were pornographic. Kids shouldn't be suggested streams of girls twerking on their Fortnite website.

Also I think pornhub and similar porn sites should do more to filter out children.

it's not a hot take, it's what everyone is saying in the discourse. i'm saying there's nothing to be done about it and kids looking for porno and finding it before they're of age is a ubiquitous experience throughout multiple generations and i do not think this is particularly different.

you can dislike this but i mean it's just reality.

Yeah some people on the Internet act like kids start (or should start) puberty at 18. they don't, sorry guys. The answer is actually decent sex ed and specifically teaching them how to protect themselves from creeps, not trying to gate porn behind a driver license or whatever the Mormons think of next

Exactly. It's all very protestant to be moralizing about it like this, it's not good.

Not going to get into the violence vs nudity thing, but I mean there's plenty of very gory and toxic video games out there, viewable on twitch, that are probably more damaging, or at least world view effecting, than seeing a tit

There is something to be done about it... like not hosting porn on the same website that kids use to watch Minecraft, for starters. And it's being shown to everyone, not just people that are looking for it.

I'm saying it's one tab over, no matter what. The Internet is one giant place.

I grew up on the internet, I'm talking about my own experience lol.

I think it's denying reality to think that taking porn off one website somehow makes it any safer for kids when they can literally open a browser tab and go to 4chan at the same time they're watching twitch.

Put a little "are you 18 and older" pop up in front of the channel and filter it out of the main content feed, or have a setting to "view adult content" with a parental lock on it for the ones paying any attention

Respectfully, that's a terrible attitude to have. If you can't think past your horny self, then think of the girls who have to grow up seeing women sexualized in the games they play and on the websites they use.

Taking porn off a website makes that website safer for kids, that's not denying reality. It's not that complicated dude. By your logic, every website including this one should be flooded with gore too because anyone can "literally open a browser tab and go to 4chan at the same time"

I'm just saying it's not worth having a moral panic about, not that it doesn't make sense to moderate and filter content. Or at least that is what I'm intending to say rather.

I.e. I don't buy "think of the children" arguments because there is much, much worse shit going on than a kid seeing some boobs.

No you're not. Porn in non-porn spaces should be cracked down on. The fact that people's actions changed when they modified their rules show they're at least minorly effective.

Yes. There was a surge of streams that were testing the boundaries of the new rule. I think Twitch may have revoked the rule because they were overwhelmed by how many streams were testing the limits.

Though the distinction between girl boobs and boy boobs is silly, that's a cultural thing not a twitch thing. Have you been on twitch much? It was filled with low-key porn streams of nude streamers & artists drawing smut and high-key porn streams of women twerking.

(And I know the distinction between porn/not porn is blurry but if you saw them you'd get it)

I don't think gamers are the community with the concerns, if anything, they're mad that twitch is kicking out their cam girls.

Obviously there is an element of misogyny, but I think most of the people here complaining about the rule have not actually perused Twitch to see how things were (let alone a more thorough investigation). "Titty streamers," though I don't use the term, aren't just busy women playing video games (that is fine and within policy). Hot tub streams aside, "titty streamers" are the ones who are top less whose entire stream is just them sitting their, periodically shaking their shoulders and "reacting" to "content" that takes up about 1/16 of the screen and that's the whole stream for fucking hours. Twitch is trying to not be saturated with softcore 24/7.

It's really just a pathetic state of affairs, though just the one a shitty site like Twitch deserves.

          Here's a quick guide:

          Softcore = flaccid, fat cocks

          Hardcore = erect, fat cocks

Art = making an entire mockumentary season about spraying fat cocks on the side of your high school teachers' cars

This is what happens when there are only 6 websites or so. You shouldn't get your softcore parasocial stuff on the same website as video game streamers. There's gonna be some infiltration but this is why different websites exist, sometimes you get dudes streaming video games on porn sites as well, but it's the exception until you conglomerate everything and then you gotta do weird policy choices to try to have all the cakes and eat all the cakes too.
