Haha I guess you’re right. In Australia we have this weird thing where we absorbed the british English version of “chips” for fries but the American English version of “chips” for crisps/potato chips.

So we somehow ended up with chips meaning both potato chips/fries and so here you’ll often hear people order “hot chips” to differentiate what they’re asking for lol.

Fuck McDonalds. Literally every other fast food joint other than them and In-n-Out are adding vegan options, but McDonalds is going against this trend.

I thought they were testing vegan nuggs in the UK or something? Either way, holy shit are they way behind literally everyone else.

Which is weird cause all McDonalds food just tastes like McDonalds. Their beef patties don't taste like beef, they taste like McDonalds. I remember. There is absolutely no fucking way with the resources they have they can't make a fake burger taste like a fake burger.

They suck. Weirdly Wendy's square strange burgers are the best, but really it baffles me that mcdonalds has the least beef like burgers yet enjoys it's ubiquitous popularity. Truly just boomer comfort blanket food.

They tried out a "McPlant" burger in a few places years ago but abandoned it.

In America, they put beef extract IN THE FRIES. And also all of our fast food places love to add a (usually) lame no-effort vegan option and then get rid of of it a few months later cause line didn't go up enough.

Burger King got a meatless option before them, and Burger King famously sucks

Oh yes I recall they got a veggie burger option before even the whole beyond/impossible stuff came out. I got it and it was really bad lol. Has the recipe changed?

Never tried that, but the Impossible Burger... just tastes like all the toppings and condiments, same as the beef burger. Nothing about the meat is important to this meal. The cow died for nothing.

    Potatoes: $1-2 per pound

    Mcdonalds large fries: $3.79

you could make a huge batch of better tasting fries for less money. Granted, the labor cost, but still.

you can make fries without a deep fryer. personally i bake 'em on a sheet pan, but I've seen some people just use a regular 4-quart saucepan with some oil

I love the panic that happens when anything happens to America's treats.

Absurdity aside, kinda good indicator of an oncoming recession, no?

Inconsistent amount of salt + especially bad when cold + local McDonalds is a liminal space + not even vegetarian in America + better fries from other places + L :ferret-poggers:

lol when we went vegan my gf was like “we can’t eat mcdonalds anymore” and i was like “what about the fries?”

not only do their fries have milk, they are flavored with beef. wtf is wrong with this stupid ass country? also whats with all the fast food plant based burgers coming with cheese and dairy sauces? not only do i have to remember to ask them to not add those but sometimes they forget and i have to either not eat a $10 sandwich or deal with hating myself for eating dairy

It's cheaper to go to your local mom and pop fast food place. Only reason people don't is because you gotta get out of your car.

actually i am buying mcdonalds fries, but that's because the daily deal on the app means I can just buy a $1.29 unsweetened tea and an apple pie & get a free fry for like a total of $2.50 :dean-smile:

Companies almost never price their deals below their true cost so those $1 large fry deals are likely closer to their true cost. Doordash charges $6 for a large fry so that's a lot of profit in between.
